Roberto A. Fois, a puppeteer for 30 years,
studied Drama and Literature at the Central University of Venezuela.
He also holds a M.Div. and a Ph.D. in Communications. Born and
raised in Italy, Roberto moved to South America in the late 60’s
where he became interested in acting, directing and producing
theater. Performing and directing his own work, he received the
Falcon State Award in 1971. After been exposed to the work of
Eduardo Di Mauro, Javier Villafañe and other leading Argentinean
puppeteers, he established ‘Synthesis’, a touring puppet company,
which was the puppet performer highlight in the INKARI festival of
Peru in 1974. Working with Vicky Morales and Gaston Aramayo at the ‘Puppet
Cabin’, the most prestigious Peruvian National Puppet Company, Mr.
Fois’ developed his signature puppet mixed-technique.
In 1976 he partnered with Daniel Di Mauro (second
generation puppeteer) to form ‘The Four Winds,’ a professional
puppet company that toured 46 cities in the South American region,
performed for adults and children, and conducted puppets
construction and handling workshops for several countries and states
Department of Education. In 1981, Mr. Fois was called
to teach Puppets in Drama at the University of Puerto Rico. Soon he
also became involved in the local marketing industry, creating and
producing documentaries and commercials for advertising
agencies such as Leo Burnett, FCB and Saatchi and Saatchi, NY where
he was Group Creative Director. His career eventually took
a turn into the marketing research side of the business where he has
built a reputation as a strategist and innovator. His creative work
received two CLIO awards, the New York International Film and TV
Festival gold and silver medal, and the Partnership for Drug Free
America meritorious contribution award. He is
currently Vice President - Healthcare at MarketTools Inc, a full
service Market Research company with headquarters in San Francisco
and offices in Florham Park, NJ. What began with a
child’s astonishment at the hyperbolic beauty of the masks used in
Commedia Dell’Arte has developed into a lifelong passion for an art
expression where everything is possible.
